15 minutes of “Fame”….

It’s nearing the end of June, as many of you know, the reality program we were part of kind of went down the drain with the May rains…I thought, along with others, that “The Monument Guys” had a chance for success…I thought the subject matter was awesome, the sculpting was superb, as well as the history angle…

But I wanted to make some “excuses” of why maybe it didn’t take seed, this is my list that I wanted to share with the many people that supported this incredibly hard and expensive endeavor…

First off…the “American Pickers” audience never excited me from the get go, however it was “prime time” as they said, but the whole objective here was to retain a percentage of some audience to be successful, and the AP audience wasn’t the crowd I feel…think about it? Here is a show (AP) of 2 guys driving around America, going through peoples junk, peoples treasures, wanting to buy it for resale…old cars, antiques, cool stuff, Ok, I get it…but personally I didn’t see a chance in Hades to retain the percentage needed to be successful with that crowd, let alone having the series run it’s course, which that didn’t happen either. This is not being disrespectful to the AP audience, not a bit, I just felt it wasn’t our best venue of humanity…2 completely different subject matters/shows going on…like going to a Glen Miller concert and then Metallica opens up for them…I love them both, but many would leave, regardless of who opens up…

Secondly…the shows felt somewhat rushed, which is probably the nature of the beast. Reality TV is a fast paced world, if there is one thing on planet earth that can not be rushed, it’s sculpture…lol…maybe we were really “done” before ever really getting started……

Thirdly…talking with my associates and our beloved employees, we didn’t think the network showed the best episodes, just saying…I’d explain this in more detail, but then that would take another website…however I will say this, we are, or I should say “were” the Monument Guys, we Needed more BIG…we did, in the other episodes…

I am sure there were many other reasons as well, but I wanted to explain to you. I am proud of this endeavor, the work that was produced, the people that we immortalized in bronze, ALL was worthy! Maybe someday they will re-run the series in it’s entirety…kicking this off the bucket list!

Happy Summer Everyone!
